Anthony Browell: Obscura in the Park, Centennial Parklands, Sydney
As part of the 2011 Head On Photo Festival, this survey exhibition of photography by Anthony Browell brings together many of the diverse images that have resulted from his continuing fascination with the potential of his hand-made, lens-less cameras. Based on the camera obscura, the oldest known form of image reproduction, Anthony’s pinhole work, created over the last few years, includes portraits, landscapes, his Hyde Park series and body studies.
His latest series presents views of Centennial Park with sculpture - as this maquette of David Begbie. These images were specifically created to highlight Sir Henry Parkes’ original plan for the Park, which included sculpture and statuary that has long since been removed. Anthony has used maquettes lent by art galleries and private collectors and incorporated them into the park landscape to emphasise the value and importance of artistic expression in public spaces.
During the Festival Anthony will be holding workshops, and will be available at the Residence at various times. Please call him 0418 212 485 to check the schedule.
This exhibition is being held in tandem with the Head On walk-In Camera Obscura by artist, Renato Colangelo, which is located on Cannon Hill near the Centennial Park Café.
