Latest News
Tomorrow (Thursday 22nd December) Gallery Different will be opening until 8 pm to enable you to visit the Christmas Exhibition - and buy that special Christmas gift.
The work featured includes a range of David Begbie's steelmesh sculpture, each of which is hand made by the artist and is a unique work. This exhibition has also launched the editioned sculpture - The Shadow Series - which is an entirely new range of work which captures the essence of the unique pieces, but is in small limited editions in stainless Steel. This brings a new price range as well and if you are still searching for an original Christmas gift, you should view this work. Also available are the limited edition prints, either framed or unframed, all of which are numbered and signed by Begbie and unique Monoprints based on the Shadow Series and again very modestly priced.
If any further temptation were needed, a seasonal glass of wine awaits you between 5pm and 8pm!
Shadow Series 2005
SHADOW SERIES 2005
A new and remarkable development in the work of DAVID BEGBIE called “SHADOW SERIES” was launched at GALLERY DIFFERENT on 24th November 2005.
BEGBIE is renowned for his innovative STEELMESH SCULPTURE, where he utilises the interplay between light, line and form to produce fascinating compositions between object and image. Powerful and captivating, shadows thrown from the sculptures have always been an essential ingredient of his work.
“SHADOW SERIES” focuses this preoccupation and has resulted in yet another visually stunning and totally innovative art form. It has taken many years to arrive at, but the new series is astonishingly successful. It contains all of the characteristics of his original forms translated into a series of editioned sculpture.
Created from flat panels of steel they are literally the ESSENCE OF HIS THREE DIMENSION WORK! Projected shadows created by lighting the pieces are bold, compelling, completely convincing, and entirely achieve what the artist set out to do. They epitomise sculptural economy and visual succinctness and as a contemporary artist he remains at the forefront of his artistic domain.
Begbie’s original works remain much in demand, with recent successful exhibitions in London and Edinburgh UK, Amsterdam and Oisterwijk Holland, as well as showing in Rome Italy, Vancouver Canada, Palm Desert and Aspen USA. This has led to a scarcity of the STEELMESH SCULPTURE and to inevitable rise in prices, reinforcing the purchase of his work to be sound investment.
Opening hours are 10 – 6 pm Monday to Friday, 12 – 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.
The gallery will also have extended opening hours until 8pm on THURSDAY 15th and THURSDAY 22nd DECEMBER. All works available for sale can be viewed online.
LIMITED EDITION ETCHINGS ON PAPER
Following the successful launch of a new etching for the Edinburgh Festival in August 2005 which accompanied his installation in the Assembly Rooms, David Begbie has produced a further three images.
Nuud, Amalgamates, and Intemates capture the imagery of Begbie's steelmesh bodies. The etchings are derived from an original sculpture which Begbie has hand formed. They are only 50 in each Edition, all individually numbered and signed by the artist.
These are available at a special launch price of £250 unframed or £350 framed and can be ordered from Gallery Different.
We have a few framed etchings still available in the gallery. There are also unframed etchings, but time is now too short to have these framed prior to Christmas.
