Unud - Exhibition at Somerville Gallery, Plymouth

11 June 2009 6:30 PM

"Unud" is an exhibition of new work which David Begbie has cretaed over the last 12 months.  It features a number of works which depart from iconic naked forms.  Evocatively rendered optical garments are used to transform classical images so that they are not longer completely nude.  The commission which David undertook for Mather & Co and the AELTC installed in the new Wimbledon Centre Court challenged him to create the illusion of fabric in the steelmesh in order to clothe his giant tennis players.  The current work continues this illusion, with the use of subtle lines in some pieces there is a mere suggestion, in others he delineates the delicate garments with the use of colour.  The exhibition will also feature David's new editioned work including his first portrait "Eve" in steel panel.

The Somerville Gallery has been showing Begbie's work since 2000 and this will be the first solo show of Begbie in the West Country.  The exhibition opens on 12th June 2009 and runs for a month.  There will be a private view on Thursday 11th June at which David Begbie will be present.  If you have not received an invitation, but would like to attend the private view, please rsvp online with full details or contact us or the Somverville Gallery 01752 221600/lenkievicz@btconnect.com/
