Facade of DIOR in Paris with newly designed windows

Christian Dior 30 Montaigne Paris

CHRISTIAN DIOR - 30 Montaigne, Paris
The vitrines showcasing the magic of the House’s savoir-faire

Located at 30 Montaigne, the CHRISTIAN DIOR building has been the birthplace of Dior collections since 1946 and this New Look refurbishment has been transformed into a new level of luxury with additional facilities. I am pleased to have been commissioned to design several artworks for this project:

Epitomising elegance and excellence, the vitrines at 30 Montaigne delight passersby with the multifaceted creativity of the House’s many universes, from fashion to perfumes, and from leather goods to makeup. The fundamentals of Dior and the symbols of its history – such as the unmistakable medallion chair, the Lady Dior, the Rouge Dior lipstick – a classic since 1953 – the Grand Escalier and the books from Christian Dior’s library – appear in turn, like a captivating moving tribute to heritage, the Ateliers and to the interplay of savoir-faire. Making the objects dance as if in weightlessness, this dreamlike choreography is punctuated by the toiles blanches – white canvases – precious three-dimensional expressions of a sketch, which then give life to the haute couture models; a subtle synergy of transparencies and light enhanced all the more by a delicate silver and gold mesh made entirely by hand*, like the entirety of this unprecedented scenography, an alliance of exceptional craftsmanship. The creations seem to float in the air, while innovative projections tell the story of the House’s key turning points through poetic images. A breath of magic and surprise that sublimates the icons and exclusive pieces of the boutique, a celebration of timeless audacity in the name of the beauty of the gesture.

*As with the rest of this original scenography, a combination of exceptional craftsmanship.

My sculptures have no palpable substance or surface. At first glance they appear to be a metallic membrane but when you take a closer look they are not even a skin - they are instead a delineation of surface and form, modelled and drawn in three-dimensional space.
