Book cover The Seduction of Curves and illustration VENII.
I am very impressed by the book ‘The Seduction of Curves‘ – The Lines of Beauty That Connect Mathematics, Art, and the Nude.
Published August 2017 by Allan McRobie with photography by Helena Weightman. (Hardcover, ISBN: 9780691175331).
I was pleased to be invited to contribute with an illustration of VENII 2005.
It is an eclectic book, full of fabulous images to illustrate curves and their fascinating connection to maths and art - maybe a Christmas present idea for art-lovers and maths lovers alike!
Use discount code MCR01 when ordering the book at Princeton University Press at checkout to reduce the price from £27.95 to £20.00.

“An Eye for the Buoys” - my iconic art sail, based on “EVE”, a steel panel suspended portrait (limited edition) won again, this time at the Barcolana - helmed by World Champion and Olympian Robert Scheidt.
The Barcolana attracts 250,000 visitors over the prime weekend and the race course. The Star Class Adriatic fleet brings back the heyday of these keelboats in the Gulf of Trieste by racing on a series of windward-leeward courses and taking part in regattas in front of Bacino San Giusto in the evening.

The 2017 edition of BEIRUT ART FAIR will offer an exceptional and innovative program that confirms Beirut’s role as one of today’s most vibrant centers of contemporary creation.
BEIRUT ART FAIR is the leading platform for the discovery of new artists, trends, galleries, institutions, and publications from the ME.NA.SA., thus representing a principal catalyst for artistic development of the region.
As Beirut is a bridge between East & West, the fair establishes and builds artistic links between diverse cultures, fostering collaboration between galleries with a demonstrated commitment to making discoveries.
In just a few years, BEIRUT ART FAIR has become an international artistic event that attracts an ever greater number of visitors to Lebanon: professionals and art lovers from the region and from around the world. We’ve decided to highlight this evolution by putting together a selection committee that reflects the support BEIRUT ART FAIR enjoys from the most important art collectors in the region, whom we’ve enlisted on the basis of their rich expertise, their intellectual curiosity, and the quality of their views on the regional art scene.
Since its creation in 2010, BEIRUT ART FAIR has served to both spotlight and reinforce a dynamic art market that today finds itself in full expansion, both in Lebanon and in the broader ME.NA.SA. region.
From 19 to 26 September 2017, BEIRUT ART WEEK opens public spaces and luxury boutiques of the capital to artistic expression.

See photo album AIRWAVE
Derived from Arabic dhow designs ‘AIRWAVE‘ is conceived as more than a sculptural rendition of a traditional vessel.
Fabricated in white painted stainless steel mesh, etherial, translucent, precariously poised, this over 6 metre height suspended composition suggests it is more the soul of a vessel than a vessel itself. Rather than in water it floats in air. Phantom-like, this sculpture seems mysteriously poised between the elements where horizon is blurred or lost, its ethos suggesting it exists not only where sea and sky optically merge but in a place where they physically merge, too and where there are neither one thing nor the other.
It’s an exploding apparition which draws attention to the fine line between liquid, air and that which is solid – water, mist, cloud, even ice. Its anti-gravitational composition ultimately expresses a vision and notion of invisible forces which surround us and which form part of everything which exists – electromagnetic and radio waves, light waves, wind and liquid shock waves as well as gravity and its counterpart relentlessly, persuasively, explosively shaping and forcing us to go with the flow.

CZIN 2016 – a male back sculpture, freestanding on metal base, black finished steelmesh, 75cm height. Above image opens more photographs.
This latest steelmesh sculpture is one of the recent series of single figurative forms both male and female whose subjects are contemporary archetypal expressions of masculine and feminine. CZIN has a particular poise and posture expressing fitness, strength and balance often witnessed in the discipline of contemporary dance and ballet.
